For her wedding festivities, Karmaa Dhingra Dhir chose to wear Ritu Kumar, continuing a legacy that began long before her own celebrations. In 1993, her mother wore Ritu Kumar for her Anand Karaj. Decades later, that same connection to craft, memory and tradition found its way into Karmaa’s wedding wardrobe. Her mother, Guneeta Dhingra also wore the Ritu Kumar Pitch patch saree for the celebrations. “The decision to wear Ritu Kumar for my wedding festivities was made before we even started planning the wedding. In many ways, it was made before I was born. Back in 1993, my mother wore Ritu Kumar for her Anand Karaj. Given how deeply she has shaped my fashion sensibilities, including Ritu Kumar in my wedding wardrobe felt only natural. The thought stayed with me until, as fate would have it, I received a call from Amrish Kumar, who encouraged me to dream without limits. And dream I did. Ritu Kumar Wedding Inspired by the timeless artistry of Bengal’s Jamdani, this sari brings together an intricate interplay of heritage motifs set against a finely woven Jamdani grid. Ari-tikki embroidery, executed using a specialised technique that recreates the beauty of traditional weaving, adds depth and texture to the drape. The look is paired with a structured corset belt, richly embellished with zardosi and meenakari-inspired coloured stonework, while a sheer silk shirt finished with delicate ari embroidery lends a contemporary edge to the ensemble. A testament to exceptional craftsmanship, the complete look took over 850 hours to create.
